TREnD will be held on July 31, 2018 at the SickKids Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning (686 Bay St, Toronto, ON M5G 0A4), which has outstanding conference facilities and on-site catering.
We have planned a full day packed with exciting talks and opportunities for discussion and feedback. Our outline of the schedule is:
8:30 – 9:15: Registration and poster set-up (with light refreshments)
9:15 – 9:20: Welcome and opening remarks
9:20 – 10:15: Keynote speaker (Dr. Joan Steitz)
10:15 – 10:30: Coffee break
10:30 – 12:15: Session I (6 trainee talks and 7 poster pitches)
12:15 – 1:00: Networking lunch
12:15 – 1:00: Lunch and Learn Career Development Workshop (with Dr. Nana Lee)*
1:00 – 2:00: Poster Session A (odd numbered posters)
2:00 – 3:00: Poster Session B (even numbered posters)
3:15 – 4:45: Session II (6 trainee talks)
4:45 – 5:00: Closing remarks and poster awards
5:00 – 6:00: Afternoon coffee and networking session
There will be two sessions of 6 research talks, which will be selected from submitted abstracts. Each talk will be 12 minutes long with 3 minutes for questions.
Posters will be set up during the registration period, and two poster sessions will occur after lunch. Awards for oral and poster presentations will be presented during the afternoon coffee session.
* TREnD2018 Lunch and Learn will feature a seminar on Networking and Career Development designed for Trainees, presented by Dr. Nana Lee from the University of Toronto. The seminar will discuss essentials of networking, such as how to connect with key people and build your professional network. Dr. Lee is the Director of Graduate Professional Development for the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto. She brings her valuable expertise as an industry scientist back into academia, and she is currently pioneering the addition of professional development in biomedical graduate education. This lunch and learn event is limited to 70 participants, and registration is required.
